1. Statement of Intent

The School of Business and Management (SBM) is committed to ensuring the health, safety,
and well-being of all students, staff, and visitors by maintaining a safe and secure
environment. This policy outlines our duty of care and the steps taken to prevent and manage
risks.

2. Responsibilities

  •  Principal/Management: Responsible for overall health and safety compliance, ensuring risk assessments are conducted and policies are implemented.
  •  Health & Safety Officer: Oversees risk management, fire safety, first aid provisions, and incident reporting.
  •  Staff & Faculty: Expected to follow health and safety procedures, report hazards, and participate in training.
  •  Students & Visitors: Must adhere to safety guidelines and report any concerns immediately.

3. Health & Safety Measures

  • Compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other UK regulations.
  •  Regular risk assessments conducted following HSE guidelines to identify and mitigate hazards.
  •  Fire safety compliance, including fire drills, fire extinguishers, and emergency exits marked clearly.
  •  Provision of first aid facilities, with trained staff available at all times.
  •  Display of Health and Safety Law Poster and provision of an HSE-approved accident report book.
  •  Regular PAT testing of electrical equipment and gas/electrical safety inspections.
  •  Accessibility and support for students with disabilities.

4. Training & Awareness

  • All staff receive mandatory health and safety training, including first aid and fire safety.
  •  Regular fire drills and evacuation procedures are practiced.
  •  Updates on safety policies are provided to all members of the institution.

5. Reporting & Monitoring

  •  Incidents and near misses must be reported immediately and recorded in the accident report book.
  •  The Health & Safety Officer reviews reports and implements corrective actions.
  •  The management team conducts annual policy reviews to ensure compliance with the latest legal and regulatory requirements.

6. Review & Compliance

This policy is reviewed annually by the Health & Safety Committee to maintain high safety standards and regulatory compliance.
